Poetry Out Loud

I chose to read and memorize the poem "Alone" by Edgar Allen Poe, it relates to me because i feel just as alone as this poem does, it speaks to me in a way no other poem ever could, it just parallels my thoiughts and feelings so well its breath taking.

I plan to read this poem putting dramatic pauses where necessary, because this poem isnt about the love of nature or happiness, its about depression, chaos, and being alone so i think dramatic pauses are in order. I also plan to not mess up with words because that would be just very naughty and not look good at all.

I hope this poem doesnt relate to me in the future because its rather depressing, which depresses me, a depressed teenager with depression issues that depress him. :P

Nature vs self reliance

I think it makes alot of sense that I like the outdoors and feel most comfortable outside or in the wilderness. I love to go camping, I enjoy being outside in the summer, and I like to explore woodsy areas around my house! I think it's beautiful when you're out in the woods and you come across a small stream or pond, its just so peaceful. You have a still, at home feeling in your heart, and noone else around to spoil the moment. A deer might hop by, followed by its fawns, just a small reminder that this is indeed nature. I love things like that. Thats what i think Emerson was trying to say to us, that there's something out there greater than you and me,and to find out what it is you must get away from all the noise and all the civilization.

The most important skill in English that i have learned is to understand symbols and grasp poems. I didn't get to do much of that freshman and sophmore yeah, so all of the poems we have gone over in detail for one reason or another, just help me understand how to recognize symbols and certain ideas when i see them. This is useful because I can insert my own ideas into my writing in a more sophisticated way. Another way it helps is to make reading poetry a bit less boring because i understand whats going on and its not all just mumbojumbo to me. It makes me feel smart that i have a vague understanding of poetry because of this class (sucking up) so i thank you, Mrs. Gilman, for the amazing experience and the sucking of the marrow out of life.
