symbolism

There are alot interesting characters in the first 4 chapters. I think the most interesting is Daisy. She seems to be an important character, the way she talks and is described is interestingto me. She seems like a sweet girl, even though it is blatently obvious her husband is cheating on her.  His affair isnt hidden as much as it should be if he doesn't want people to find out. To me, Daisy really needs a break from Tom, he's not good for her.

This relates to symbolism because Daisy is the equivalent of light and good. Light is shining, radiant, and bright just like Daisys personalitly. Toms mistriss Myrtle is the opposite of Daisy, everything abut her just screams black and dark and evil to me.

Gatsby ch 1

Tom Buchanon: He is racist and bull-headed
"If we don't look out, the white race will be utterly submerged"

Daisy: She is a sad/ heartbroken romantic but she has an energetic personality that none can compare with.
"...the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool."

Jordan Baker-A dishonest gossiper.

"...and Miss Baker leaned forward unashamed, trying to hear..."

""You mean you don't know...Tom's got some woman in New York"

Nick Carraway: A judgemental, sarcastic, and very outspoken man

"...I was confused and disgusted as i drove away"

My first impression is that it's a book about Nicks dream to settle down; and have a laid back lifestyle. I think the writing style is very vivid, with lots of detail an imagery.
