Well it seems to me we are reading The Crucible by Arthur Miller to learn about several things at once. Its like hitting two birds with one stone. We learn about a historical event, and we learn about literature stuff like plays, literary analysis, vocabulary, and other stuff. Reading books like this one is a great way to gather a bunch of knowledge and get high schoolers to digest it in a short amount of time.
Another reason we are reading this book is so we can use the moral lessons taught in the book in our own lives. For instance, we learn from John Proctor that adultery will vanquish any and all trust from a relationship. There are alot of lessons that we can learn from reading books like this one.
